Sec. 1616. Study of space situational awareness architecture

The Secretary of Defense shall direct the Defense Science Board to conduct a study of the effectiveness of the ground and space sensor system architecture for space situational awareness. The study required by subsection
(a)shall include an assessment of the following: Projected needs, based on current and future threats, for the ground and space sensor system during the five-, 10-, and 20-year periods beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act. Capabilities of the ground and space sensor system to conduct defensive and offensive operations. Integration of ground and space sensors with ground processing, control, and battle management systems. Any other matters relating to space situational awareness the Secretary considers appropriate. Not later than one year after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the study conducted under subsection (a). If the report required by paragraph
(1)is submitted in classified form, such report shall also include an unclassified summary.
